Valldemossa is a small mountain village with about 2,000 inhabitants, situated at an altitude of 435 metres above sea level and offering fantastic views of the mountains and the sea. The picturesque village is a popular excursion destination, as it has largely retained its original charm, in the midst of the Sierra de Tramuntana, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. However, the mountain village of Valldemossa became famous when the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin spent the winter of 1838/39 there with the French writer George Sand. George Sand later described this winter in the famous book "Win Winter on Mallorca".
